Stance Analysis

Introducing Stance Analysis

Stance Analysis - Companion Animal Health

As part of our comprehensive physiotherapy services, we are now offering stance analysis assessments to help detect and manage musculoskeletal imbalances in your pet.

Stance analysis is a non-invasive method used to evaluate how your animal distributes weight through each limb while standing. Subtle changes in weight-bearing can be an early indicator of pain, injury, or compensatory patterns caused by underlying conditions. By using objective data and visual feedback, we can accurately identify areas of concern—even before more obvious symptoms develop.

The results from a stance analysis allow us to tailor your pet’s physiotherapy program with even greater precision, ensuring targeted treatment and more effective outcomes.

How does it Work?

A four‑quadrant pressure‑sensing mat paired with intuitive software to objectively assess weight distribution and balance.

Typically, a dog will distribute 60% of its weight across its forelimbs (split 30:30%), and 40% across the hindlimbs (split 20:20%).

Various reasons affect how a dog distributes its weight including:

  1. Pain or discomfort

  2. Post-operative or injury

  3. Muscle asymmetry or weakness

  4. Conformation

  5. Habitual or learned behaviours

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Early lameness detection: Spots subtle shifts before clinical signs appear, ideal for wellness or athletic assessments.

  • Objective metrics: Measures percentage of body weight borne by each limb, centre‑of‑gravity, and stability—taking subjectivity out of physical exams.

  • Treatment tracking: Capture baseline & re‑checks over time to monitor rehab, surgical recovery, osteoarthritis progression, or sports injuries .

  • Non‑invasive & fast: Simple stand-on‑mat procedure with instant results—no sedation or complex gait training needed.
